Announced An attorney says Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston’s student code of conduct hearing has been scheduled for the week of Nov. 17. Winston is facing a university hearing to determine whether he violated four sections of the code of conduct – two for sexual misconduct and two for endangerment. The former female student said he assaulted her in December 2012.

• Connecticut teammates Breanna Stewart and Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis headline The Associated Press’ preseason women’s All-America team for the second straight season. Joining them on the squad are Notre Dame’s Jewell Loyd, Duke’s Elizabeth Williams and South Carolina’s Tiffany Mitchell. Stewart was the AP’s player of the year last season and is the only player returning from last season’s All-America team.

Roger Federer and Stan Wawrinka will lead Switzerland’s bid for its first Davis Cup title against host France this month. Switzerland captain Severin Luethi retained the four-man team which beat Italy in the semifinals: second-ranked Federer, Australian Open champion Wawrinka, Marco Chiudinelli and Michael Lammer. Federer and Wawrinka will prepare for the Nov. 21-23 final in Lille by playing the ATP finals in London on indoor hard courts.

Injured Portland Timbers midfielder Diego Valeri has had surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. It is expected that Valeri will miss at least five months after Monday’s operation, so it is unlikely he’ll be back in time for the start of the 2015 season. Valeri was injured in the Portland’s 2-0 victory over Dallas on Oct. 25.

Attacked The agent for Brittney Griner said the basketball star was cut by a man in a knife attack in China but didn’t need to go to the hospital. Griner sustained a small cut when the man swiped at her elbow as her team was boarding a bus after practice. Colas said the 6-foot-8 Griner didn’t require stitches. Griner plays in the WNBA with the Phoenix Mercury. This is her second season playing in China.

Disqualified Two Minnesota high school runners have been disqualified in the state girls cross country meet for helping an opponent who fell. Kailee Kiminski, a senior from Esko, and Tierney Winter, a junior in Janesville, forfeited the race last weekend to help Jackson County Central freshman Jessica Christoffer cross the finish line. All three were disqualified because of a high school league rule against aiding another runner.
