Perfect love the antidote

Bryan Fischer’s quote in the Oct. 22 Spokesman-Review, “Homosexuality brought us Hitler …” turns logic upside down. It was Hitler’s fear of homosexuals, Jews, physical deformities in people, plus anyone he considered foreign, that brought on such carnage.

Those very fears are still latent in even the most rational of people, making it easier for fear mongers to stir up the embers of hate (fear’s product) in those who consider themselves devout Christians but run from Christ’s teachings when fear grabs hold of them.

Jesus understood all too well that fear – of whomever or whatever – is what keeps humans from living in peace. But He prescribed the antidote: “Perfect love casts out all fear.” Obviously, perfect love has not been mastered. Still, we need to find paths that lead to it. None of them will be found in fear. How much longer will it take the human race to realize this?
