Gorge lures Nickelback for June 20 show

Nickelback has nabbed first spot on the Gorge Amphitheatre’s 2015 schedule.

The Canadian rockers will be in George, Washington, on June 20. Tickets start at $25 and go on sale Saturday through Live Nation, www.livenation.com.

Their new album “No Fixed Address” goes on sale Nov. 17.

The group is best known for “How You Remind Me” – the most played song of the 2000s decade, according to Nielson SoundScan.

The band was last in Spokane in 2012.

Comedy contest

The Seattle International Comedy Competition will be making a stop at the Bing Crosby Theater on Thursday.

Thirty-three comedians are competing for $15,000 in prizes in the monthlong contest.

The show at the Bing features 16, including Spokane’s Harry J. Riley. Other contestants come from Seattle, Portland and farther-flung places like Boston, Toronto and Melbourne, Australia.

During the preliminary rounds, each of the 16 comedians gets five minutes on stage at six shows. The comics are scored by judges and based on audience reaction, with the top five advancing to the semifinals.

The show starts at 7:30 p.m. at the Bing, 901 W. Sprague Ave. Tickets are $20, available through TicketsWest outlets and www.ticketswest.com.

And the winners are …

Create Spokane Arts Month in October concluded with the inaugural Spokane Arts Awards.

Individuals and groups were honored in four different categories. The winners are:

• For leadership, Brenda Nienhouse, executive director of the Spokane Symphony;

• For collaboration, the Mobile Murals Project, which attached art panels to the fence around the empty lot at Third Avenue and Division Street;

• For inclusion: Terrain, the annual one-night art showcase organized by Luke Baumgarten, Ginger Ewing, Patrick Kendrick and Diego Sanchez; and

• For imagination, musician Marshall McLean and muralists Todd and Cain Benson.

According to a news release, more than 80 nominations were received with 41 individuals nominated, many in multiple categories.
