Area roundup: GU’s Heather Johnson named All-WCC first-team

Gonzaga Bulldogs junior midfielder Heather Johnson was rewarded for her team-leading five goals, by earning First Team All-West Coast Conference honors, as the WCC announced its annual awards Tuesday.

Johnson led the Bulldogs (9-9-1 overall, 4-4-1 in league) in goals for the second consecutive season, and is currently tied for seventh on GU’s career goals list.

Karley Baggerly, Aliyah Miller, Katey Pennington and Christie Tombari were each named All-WCC Honorable Mention.

• Washington State midfielder Nicole Setterlund earned her second consecutive second-team All-Pac-12 honor. Teammates Gurveen Clair received honorable mention, and defender Jordan Branch was named to the Pac-12 All-Freshman team.

• Whitworth juniors Tiara Pajimola and Andrea Stump were named to the All-Northwest Conference second team, and sophomore Hannah Langbehn received honorable mention as the NWC announced its annual awards. Pajimola led the Pirates with five goals, and has led Whitworth in scoring in each of her first three seasons. Stump, a goalkeeper, posted eight shutouts.

Men’s Basketball

Jordan King scored 18 points, Braian Angola-Rodas added 16 and North Idaho defeated Salish Kootenai 80-69 in a NJCAA contest at Pablo, Montana.

Angola-Rodas added five assists and three steals, and fellow freshman guard Djuan Piper added 15 points and eight rebounds for the Cardinals (4-1).
