Witnesses ID possible Spokane shooter

Police have identified two people of interest in the shooting of a man in northeast Spokane just before 3 a.m. Sunday.

Witnesses told police that men were arguing with the victim in the 2900 block of North Smith Street when one pulled a gun and fired, according to a search warrant affidavit filed Wednesday. One witness told police she recognized the voices of the two men, whom she identified as “Native” and “Jagger.” Witnesses said it was Jagger that fired the shot that wounded the victim, according to court documents.

The victim is identified as Nathaniel Shields in court documents, which state that he was shot in his “body cavity” and taken to a local hospital. Information about his condition was unavailable Thursday.

Police have identified “Native” as Trevor C. Frantz, 24, and “Jagger” as Jager J. Fox, 20. Fox has a tattoo similar to the one described by witnesses, according to court documents.

Police said Frantz, a convicted felon, was discovered hiding in the attic crawl space of a home at 4715 E. Third Ave. on Sunday evening and was booked into the Spokane County Jail on a warrant for unlawful possession of a firearm. He is also being held on a $10,000 bond for bail jumping. He has not been charged with any crime in connection with the shooting.

Police said they recovered two handguns, a rifle, methamphetamine, cash and numerous rounds of ammunition from the home where Frantz was found.

Fox, who has not been arrested, is currently wanted on a warrant for no valid operator’s license. No new charges have been filed against him.
