2A, 1A, 2B, 1B State volleyball: Colfax romps to 13th title

Michael Anderson Special to The Spokesman-Review

YAKIMA – Colfax allowed for little suspense in pursuit of its 13th state volleyball title on Saturday in the SunDome. The Bulldogs made Wahkiakum’s second visit to the title match a short one, 25-10, 25-6, 25-14, to win their latest Class 2B championship

The title gives Colfax four titles in seven years since dropping down to 2B and the Bulldogs were second in 2011 and 2012. The only time Colfax hasn’t been in the finals in that stretch was 2010 when the Bulldogs were a surprising third.

The Bulldogs dispatched Mossyrock in the semifinals, 25-12, 25-19, 25-18.

In Colfax’s four-match blitz to another title, the Bulldogs didn’t lose a set and didn’t allow more than 21 points to any opponent. Colfax has a string of 11 straight state tournament matches without losing a set.

After her players did their celebratory dance, coach Sue Doering marveled at her team’s handiwork.

“We really executed,” she said. “Kindra (Kneale) really served well and our hitting was really good.”

Scout Cai had six blocks, eight kills and eight digs for the Bulldogs.

• Elsewhere in 2B, Darrington ended Northwest Christian’s season , 25-21, 25-20, 25-22 and Adna eliminated Davenport, 25-22, 25-17, 25-16. Neither team made it to the trophy round.

Class 1B

Almira/Coulee-Hartline made it to the finals for the second time in four years but couldn’t match Pomeroy’s firepower, falling 25-10, 25-6, 25-14.

The Warriors, who finished second in District 7, advanced by dispatching Sunnyside Christian in the semis, 21-25, 25-18, 25-21, 25-23.

St. John-Endicott defeated Mount Vernon Christian 21-25, 18-25, 25-18, 25-17, 15-4 to advance to the trophy round, then the Eagles blitzed Quilcene for fifth place, 25-14, 26-24, 12-25, 25-17.

Quilcene eliminated Odessa-Harrington, 25-22, 25-16, 18-25, 25-13 and Klickitat/Glenwood ended Republic’s season, 25-22, 25-22, 25-14. Neither team made it to the trophy round.
