Driver identified in fatal State Route 2 collision

Washington State Patrol has identified the woman killed in a Thursday morning collision on State Route 2 as Sharon Deppner, 74. Deppner lost control of her car while driving eastbound on the highway just after 8:40 a.m. near Deep Creek, several miles west of Airway Heights. Her car crossed into the westbound lanes of traffic, striking a semi-truck, which went off the road. She then traveled back into the eastbound lanes, striking a second car. The truck’s driver was transported to Sacred Heart Medical Center with minor injuries and the driver and passenger in the car Deppner struck were uninjured. All parties were wearing seatbelts. Investigators said the collision was caused by drivers going too fast for the snowy road conditions.
