Crash with school bus injures two on dirt bike

Two people on a dirt bike were seriously injured when they ran into the side of a school bus at Magnolia Street and Boone Avenue shortly after 3 p.m. Friday.

The motorcycle was southbound on Magnolia while the school bus, which had no passengers, was eastbound on Boone, said Spokane police Sgt. Jason Hartman.

“I think the motorcycle hit the bus,” Hartman said.

Spokane Public Schools spokesman Kevin Morrison said one of the passengers was a student who had just been picked up by a parent or older sibling at nearby Stevens Elementary School.

Their injuries were serious but believed not to be life-threatening, Hartman said.

Three injured in crash on state Route 26

A car driven by a Washington State University student crashed near Colfax Thursday night, injuring three.

Silvia Muro-Escalante, 18, was westbound on state Route 26 about 6 p.m. when her car left the road, the Washington State Patrol said. She was taken to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in Lewiston, where she was in fair condition Friday.

Two passengers were taken to Whitman Hospital and Medical Center. A third was uninjured.

The WSP said the crash was caused by fatigue and driving too fast for conditions. All who were in the car were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.
