Named UCLA has named a conglomeration of athletic facilities after Jackie Robinson, the four-sport Bruins star who broke baseball’s color barrier. The school announced Friday that 22 of its sports facilities will be collectively called the Jackie Robinson Athletics and Recreation Complex. The facilities include Pauley Pavilion, the Los Angeles Tennis Center, the J.D. Morgan Athletics Center and numerous pools and gyms on UCLA’s Westwood campus.

Injured Timberwolves guard Kevin Martin is out indefinitely after fracturing his right wrist on Wednesday, Minnesota announced. The Wolves say Martin broke the wrist on his shooting hand in a fall during the first quarter.

Confirmed Cornerback Josh Shaw will play for Southern California in its rivalry showdown against UCLA, although his role hasn’t been determined. Shaw served a 10-game suspension for lying to the school about how he sprained both of his ankles shortly before the season began.

Traded Reliever Joel Peralta was acquired by the Los Angeles Dodgers from the Tampa Bay Rays as part of a four-player trade. The deal is the first major move for Los Angeles since Andrew Friedman left the Rays to become president of baseball operations for the Dodgers. Peralta, a 38-year-old right-hander, was 3-4 with a 4.41 ERA and one save in 69 games last season, when he struck out 74 in 63 1/3 innings.

Honored Pole vault indoor record holder Renaud Lavillenie of France and shot putter Valerie Adams of New Zealand were named world athletes of the year. Lavillenie succeeded Usain Bolt after clearing 20 feet, 2 1/2 inches to take Sergei Bubka’s 21-year-old mark in February. The Frenchman also won 21 of the 22 competitions he entered this year. Adams, the Olympic champion, was unbeaten while winning gold at the indoor worlds and Commonwealth Games.

Granted The NHL is giving salary cap relief to the Los Angeles Kings while defenseman Slava Voynov remains suspended indefinitely with pay after being charged with felony spousal abuse. The league said that Voynov’s salary will no longer count against the Kings’ salary cap. Voynov’s $4.167 million cap hit may be replaced in the same manner in which players with long-term injuries don’t count against the cap.

Hired Fresno State has hired Jim Bartko as its new athletic director. The school announced that Bartko will replace Thomas Boeh, who took a new job at the school in August.
