Spokane trips rival Americans
There’s no place like home – unless you’re the Spokane Chiefs.
Spokane continued its successful road run with its fourth-straight road victory, defeating the Tri-City Americans 2-1 Saturday night in a Western Hockey League game in Kennewick.
Garrett Hughson had 38 saves for the Chiefs (11-7-3), who have back-to-back 2-1 road wins and an impressive 7-2-1 road record.
Riley Whittingham and Calder Brooks scored nine minutes apart in the second period as Spokane used a season-high 57 shots on net, including a season-best, period-high 24 shots in the second period to put away the Americans (14-10-0).
The Americans opened up the scoring in the first on a Beau McCue power-play goal three minutes into the contest before Spokane came out firing in the second.
The Chiefs finish off their three-games-in-three-nights stretch by hosting Kamloops at 5:05 tonight.
