Obituary: Linton, Rodney

Age 84

LINTON, Rodney (Age 84) Passed away on November 12th, 2014.

A life celebration is planned for August 1st, signifying the wedding anniversary weekend of he and his since passed wife, Beverly Linton.

Friends and family will be notified of the details early summer.

Rodney was born in Spokane Valley, WA in 1930.

He graduated from West Valley High School in Spokane where he was Senior Class President, a State Badmitton Champion, National Jitterbug Champion, State qualifier in 880 yd run, and a Varsity football and basketball player.

He was an all around athlete and scholar.

In his early years he was a Smoke Jumper in Montana and painted ID numbers on the top of lookout towers.

Mr. Linton attended University of Montana and Montana State University.

He served in the Army assigned to Division Head Quarters in Korea during the Korean War and was discharged with the rank of Staff Sargent.

He operated his own business called SilentTone in Spokane for ten years.

Later he attended Eastern Washington University where received his BS degree in Education, finishing up with a Masters from Whitworth College.

He was an admired and dedicated teacher at Progress Elementary and North Pines Jr. High Schools in Spokane Valley where he served as a tennis coach.

He retired from teaching in 1990.

His love of football, golf, music, dogs and boating were infectious.

He was a playful, intelligent and supportive man and he will be sorely missed.

Survivors include his children: Todd Linton and his wife Cathy Linton; Dirk Linton and his wife MaryLee Linton; Kolea Baker and her husband Bob Kent; and five grandchildren: Rodney J. and CharLee Linton; Ariel Linton; and Weston and Aldon Baker.
