Curry, Thompson send Warriors to sixth straight win

NBA: Stephen Curry scored 40 points, and visiting Golden State beat Miami 114-97 for its sixth consecutive victory.

Golden State scored 14 straight points to open a 107-95 lead with 2:50 to go. Curry and Klay Thompson capped the run with consecutive 3-pointers.

Thompson had 24 points for the Warriors, who shot 57 percent. Curry was 12 for 19 from the field, including an 8-for-11 performance from 3-point range.

Nuggets win fifth straight: Ty Lawson scored 20 points, including a key jumper in the waning seconds, and host Denver beat Chicago 114-109 for its fifth straight win.

Bucks keep Pistons reeling: Brandon Knight had 20 points and eight assists to lead Milwaukee to a 98-86 victory over visiting Detroit. The Pistons have lost five in a row and eight of nine.

Cousins stellar for Kings: DeMarcus Cousins had 22 points, 12 rebounds, five assists and three steals, leading visiting Sacramento to a 99-89 victory over New Orleans.

No. 3 Arizona edges K-State

College men: Kaleb Tarczewski scored 18 points, Gabe York added 15 and No. 3 Arizona (5-0) hung on to win its first close game of the season, beating Kansas State 72-68 in a Maui Invitational semifinal at Lahaina, Hawaii.

Trailing by nine in the second half, Kansas State (3-2) whittled the lead down to a single possession in the final minute.

Pinkston keys Villanova win: JayVaughn Pinkston had the go-ahead basket and game-saving block in the final minute to lift No. 12 Villanova (5-0) over No. 19 Michigan (4-1) 60-55 in the Legends Classic championship game at Brooklyn, New York.

VCU rolls past Oregon: Melvin Johnson scored 19 points and Treveon Graham had 13 to lead Virginia Commonwealth (4-1) past Oregon 77-63 in the Legends Classic in Brooklyn, New York. Joseph Young, who had averaged 24.5 points, missed 11 of 13 shots and had only nine points for Oregon (3-2).

No. 1 Kentucky cruises: Devin Booker scored 19 points for his second career best in as many games, Karl-Anthony Towns added 13 with 11 rebounds, and No. 1 Kentucky (6-0) had no trouble with Texas-Arlington (3-2) in a 92-44 blowout at Lexington, Kentucky.

Freshman powers No. 7 Texas: Freshman Myles Turner had 25 points and 10 rebounds, leading No. 7 Texas to a 78-46 win over Saint Francis (2-3) at Austin, Texas, and the Longhorns’ first 5-0 start since 2009.

Canucks shut out Devils

NHL: Ryan Miller made 20 saves for his second shutout of the season, and Vancouver beat the visiting New Jersey Devils 2-0.

Alex Burrows and Shawn Matthias scored for the Canucks, who have won three of four.

Ducks extend streak against Flames: Corey Perry, Matt Beleskey and Kyle Palmieri staked Anaheim to a big lead, and the Ducks then held on for their 19th straight home victory against Calgary, beating the Flames 3-2.

The Flames haven’t won in Anaheim since Jan. 19, 2004. Only three players who played for Calgary in that game are active in the NHL.

No. 2 Notre Dames cruises

College women: Jewell Loyd scored 23 points to lead No. 2 Notre Dame (6-0) to a 112-52 win over Quinnipiac (3-2) at South Bend, Indiana.

Cycling teams join forces

Miscellany: Eleven of the world’s leading cycling teams have united to form Velon, a business venture that they hope will rejuvenate the sport in the wake of doping scandals, haphazard management and questions about its integrity.

Among the teams are U.S.-based BMC Racing and Garmin Sharp, British heavyweight Team Sky and powerhouses Omega Pharma-Quickstep, Orica-GreenEDGE and Team Giant-Shimano.
