For juveniles charged as adults in Spokane robbery, beating

Four juveniles accused of beating a homeowner, breaking his windows and stealing a space heater off his kitchen counter have been charged as adults.

A fifth person accused in the crime was not identified in court records available Wednesday and did not appear in court.

The victim told police that he heard loud pounding at his door in the 800 block of East Euclid Avenue just after 11 p.m. Friday and opened it to see a group of five teens on the sidewalk standing next to a truck, according to court documents. The five attempted to push their way inside and began to beat him when he resisted, he told police. He reported hearing someone say “We’re going to rob you” and another person say “Show him the gun.”

He was able to shut his door but told police that they tried kicking it down and threw rocks and bricks through two of his windows, breaking them. He reported that they reached inside through a broken window and took a space heater off a kitchen counter, according to court documents.

Police pulled over a truck with the five teens inside shortly after in the area of Bridgeport and Hogan. The victim was able to identify all five of them and the truck, according to court documents. The teens reportedly admitted to police that they had been drinking.

The four, including twin brothers, are ages 16 and 17. All have been charged in Spokane County Superior Court with first-degree robbery, first-degree burglary and conspiracy to commit first-degree robbery. The bonds set for the four in court Wednesday ranged from $2,000 to $5,000. Three of the four have prior criminal histories.
