Cougars wrap up exhibition tour with win over Mariners’ academy team
Washington State scored three runs in the fifth inning and defeated the Seattle Mariners Dominican Republic Academy team 3-1, Thanksgiving Day at Ken Griffey, Jr. Field in Boca Chica, Dominican Republic. With the victory, the Cougars completed their five-game exhibition tour in the Dominican Republic with a 3-1-1 mark, including 3-0 against MLB academy squads. Washington State trailed 1-0 after four innings before plating three runs with two outs in the fifth. Four Cougar pitchers combined on a two-hitter. Starter Layne Bruner gave up one run on two hits in three innings. Sam Boone fanned four in two innings to earn the win. – AP
