Quick start sends Pirates past Caltech

Whitworth jumped ahead 15-4 in the first 4 minutes and eased past Caltech 76-48 in a nonconference game Saturday in Pasadena, California.

The Pirates (3-2) were red-hot offensively, particularly in the first half. Whitworth made 17 of 25 shots from the field and led 40-24 at the break.

Forrest Baker led the Pirates’ charge with a career-high 21 points on 9-of-14 shooting. Taylor Farnsworth added a season-high 17 points and Kenny Love dished out six assists.

Caltech (0-5) made just 2 of 20 3-pointers. No Caltech player hit double figures. Andrew Hogue had nine points.

The Pirates held a 36-24 rebounding advantage and had 20 assists, compared to just eight for Caltech.

Whitworth will play a game against the Pirate Alumni on Saturday and then travel to Georgetown, Texas, to take on Southwestern on Dec. 16.
