OCTOBER MADNESS?

College football had its own version of March Madness in October with one of the wildest days the sport has ever seen.

It started with No. 12 Mississippi State knocking off No. 6 Texas A&M. A big game, but turned out to be just the appetizer.

As the afternoon kept rolling, one thriller after another followed.

No. 9 Norte Dame legitimized its top-10 ranking by holding off No. 14 Stanford 17-14. Not long after that, No. 11 Ole Miss took down No. 3 Alabama 23-17, sending the fans rushing out of the stands in Oxford.

That upset still fresh, No. 25 TCU took down No. 4 Oklahoma 37-33 in North Texas.

With No. 2 Oregon’s loss to Arizona on Thursday night, that’s four of the top six teams in The Associated Press poll that lost this week.

OH, MISSISSIPPI

Oct. 4, 2014, will likely go down as the biggest day of football in Mississippi state history.

The Hospitality State hosted two top-15 match-ups and both Mississippi and Mississippi State came through with a pair of monumental victories.

The 12th-ranked Bulldogs did it in dominating fashion, overpowering Texas A&M 48-31 behind Dak Prescott’s five-touchdown day. The 11th-ranked Rebels followed up with a massive takedown by knocking off second-ranked Alabama behind Bo Wallace’s three TD passes.

Prescott called his team’s win a “Mississippi State-ment,” but it pretty much sums up the day the state had, too.
