The Idaho women’s golf team, led by co-medalist Kaitlyn Oster, won the New Mexico State Aggie Invitational on Wednesday.
The Vandals finished at 14-under-par 850 for the three-round tournament, 10 strokes ahead of runners-up Boise State and New Mexico State. Oster had rounds of 67-72-67 for her 10-under 206.
Washington State finished the event tied for sixth place at 13-over 877. Kristen Rue was the top finisher for the Cougars, with her even-par 216 good for a tie for 11th place.
• The Gonzaga women finished in fourth place at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational at Sahalee Country Club in Sammamish, Washington. The Bulldogs finished at 30-over 606. Washington won the two-round tournament with a 5-under 571.
Gonzaga’s Raychelle Santos finished tied for eighth place at 3-over 147.
Whitworth rallied from two sets down to force a fifth set, but Lewis-Clark State prevailed in a nonconference match in Lewiston. Set scores were 25-20, 25-19, 19-25, 21-25, 15-12. Brenna Bruil led the Pirates (11-5) with 17 kills and Nicole Leonard had 24 digs.
• Community Colleges of Spokane swept a match with Columbia Basin at Spokane Falls Community College, winning 25-9, 25-7, 25-17. Korrie Stephenson had 16 kills and Lizzy Ridley had 17 digs to pace the Sasquatch.
Brady Ulen scored in the 87th minute to tie the match and Alec Johnson scored in the 90th minute to win it – both on assists by Jacob Kraut – as North Idaho College rallied for a 3-2 NWAC triumph over CCS at SFCC. Devin Leon and Jonathan Cruz scored for Spokane, and Jeffrey Rokstad scored the Cardinals’ other goal.
• Rachelle Fisher scored in the 20th minute off an assist from Maddie Brown to give the CCS women a 1-0 NWAC victory over visiting NIC. Samantha Burmester made three saves for the shutout.
The Western Hockey League announced the Red Deer Rebels have been selected to host the 2016 Memorial Cup. Red Deer, selected over Vancouver, will host the event for the first time May 19-29, 2016.
The Spokane Shock have been assigned wide receiver Braylon Bell and fullback Stanlee Bradley to the 2015 roster. Bell spent last season with the Orlando Predators and Portland Thunder. Bradley will be playing his first season.
