Catholic Church won’t change

Regarding the article in the Oct 15 edition of The Spokesman-Review, “Conservative bishops dismayed by report”:

The Catholic Church’s basic moral doctrines cannot and will not change despite repeated efforts from within over its many centuries of existence. The study cited reflects nothing more than an attempt to use modern language as a placebo to reinforce the basic doctrine to welcome all sinners to the church: Love the sinner but acknowledge and despise the sin.

Any effort by individuals or groups to propagandize this effort as a “radical shift in tone” will fail. The church can be both merciful and moralistic, as it has continually proven over the millennia. Membership in the church is voluntary and those who accept the challenge to be Catholic also accept the doctrine and everything that implies.
