No. 5 Wildcats pummel Pirates 65-13

Sam Riddle threw for five touchdowns and fifth-ranked Linfield racked up 719 yards of total offense in a 65-13 Northwest Conference win over Whitworth Saturday at Maxwell Field in McMinnville, Oregon.

The Pirates, who put up 61 points against Willamette last weekend, could not get their offense going. The Wildcats (5-0, 3-0) sacked Whitworth quarterbacks Bryan Peterson and Michael McCune six times and limited Whitworth to 264 yards of total offense, including just 27 on the ground.

Linfield’s Charlie Poppen caught three of Riddle’s TD passes. He finished with eight catches for 127 yards.

Peterson and McCune each threw for touchdowns for Whitworth (4-3, 2-2).

The Pirates, who have dropped three of their last four, will look to bounce back next Saturday at home against Puget Sound.

Central Washington 24, Western Oregon 20: Jake Nelson threw for 264 yards and three touchdowns and the Wildcats (4-3, 3-1) clipped the Wolves (3-4, 1-1) in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference game at Tomlinson Stadium in Ellensburg, Washington.

Central Washington forced four turnovers – three interceptions and a fumble – and denied Western Oregon a first down on 13 of 16 third-down plays.The Wolves scored 13 fourth-quarter points, but ran out of time.

Carroll 42, Southern Oregon 40: The fourth-ranked Raiders (6-1, 5-1) couldn’t score on a two-point conversion attempt with 22 seconds left and the third-ranked Saints (5-1, 5-1) escaped with a Frontier Conference win in Helena, Montana.

Southern Oregon scored 13 points through the first three quarters, then scored 27 in the final 15 minutes.

Austin Dodge’s 21-yard touchdown strike to Dylan Young gave the Raiders a chance, but Dodge’s pass on the two-point try fell incomplete.

Puget Sound 33, George Fox 14: The Loggers (3-2, 2-1) pulled away in the fourth quarter and beat the Bruins (0-5, 0-3) in a Northwest Conference game in Newberg, Oregon.

Puget Sound outscored George Fox 21-7 in the fourth quarter, thanks mostly to a 78-yard interception return by Nasser Abdelrasul and a 99-yard kickoff return by Connor Savage.

Pacific 31, Pacific Lutheran 28: Warner Shaw completed 21 of 24 passes for 244 yards and three touchdowns as the Boxers (3-2, 3-0) beat the 18th-ranked Lutes (3-2, 1-2) in a Northwest Conference game at Hanson Stadium in Forest Grove, Oregon.The winning score was an 18-yard touchdown pass from Shaw to Jakob Lawrence with 4:09 left in the game.
