In brief: Arrest made in fatal pedestrian hit-and-run

State troopers have arrested a man they accused of striking and killing a pedestrian on the side of a highway on Wednesday in north Spokane County, the Washington State Patrol reported.

Orlan W. Knuth, 35, was driving a 1988 Chevrolet pickup on U.S. Highway 2 just north of Nevada Street when his vehicle allegedly struck Joshua B. Lee, 31, who was walking on the paved shoulder of the highway.

Knuth fled the scene, the WSP said. He later was booked into the Spokane County Jail on charges of vehicular homicide and leaving the scene of a fatality accident.

Lee, of Deer Park, was alive when he was found but died after he was transported to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, WSP said.

Trooper Jeff Sevigney said Knuth and Lee “were associates.”

Earlier in the day, the WSP said Lee had been struck between 3 a.m. and 8 a.m.
