Mead, CV set up showdown for GSL soccer title

Kaylyn Thompson scored in the 70th minute to lift Mead to a 2-1 victory over Mt. Spokane in Greater Spokane League girls soccer at Mt. Spokane on Wednesday.

Clair Neder also scored for the Panthers.

Mead plays Central Valley on Friday to determine the GSL regular-season champion.

Mt. Spokane has already clinched the top 3A seed to the district playoffs.

Central Valley 8, North Central 0: The Bears scored two goals in the first two minutes of the match en route to a win over the Indians at Albi Stadium. Kelsey Turnbow scored a pair of goals for the Bears.

University 3, Shadle Park 2: Rylee Rassier scored two goals, including the go-ahead goal in the 60th minute, to rally the Titans to a triumph over the host Highlanders. University trailed 2-1 entering halftime.

Lewis and Clark 2, Ferris 1: Maia Angell netted the winning goal in the shootout to give the Tigers the win over the Saxons at Albi Stadium, winning 4-3 on penalty kicks.

Volleyball

Courtney Eaton tallied seven kills and Savannah Burns had four blocks as Bonners Ferry swept Timberlake 25-17, 25-11, 25-23 in a 3A District I match at Bonners Ferry, advancing to the 3A State tournament.

Timberlake will face Priest River tomorrow in a loser-out match, with the winner advancing to a state play-in match.

• Megan Whitman recorded 15 kills and Kaylee Fink had 12 digs as host Priest River eliminated Kellogg 25-21-25-20, 23-25, 25-17 in a 3A District I loser-out matchup at Bonners Ferry.
