Weekend weather: Pacific storms bring dreary weather

The warm sunny weather of early autumn appears to be taking a hike as October serves up a series of Pacific storms.

The National Weather Service is calling for periods of rain and showers with breezy to windy conditions at times through Sunday.

Today, southwest winds of 10 to 20 mph with gusts to 31 mph are forecast in Spokane, and gusts to 28 mph in Coeur d’Alene as one storm exits the region

Temperatures will be mild for this time of year with highs running from about 60 today in Spokane and Coeur d’Alene with upper 50s on Friday.

A break between storms on Friday and early Saturday should bring some sunshine to the region.

A warm front lifts northward across the region Friday night, pushing highs to the middle 60s on Saturday with partly sunny skies, although there is still a slight chance of rain during the day.

The warm front will precede the next rainy cold front on Saturday night.

While rain amounts should be light on Saturday night, there is a chance the low pressure area associated with the storm will kick up winds again.

Lows today through Sunday morning should be in the middle 40s.

A slight chance of showers is forecast for Sunday.

A series of weaker weather systems is likely next week for periods of rain.

Coeur d’Alene and Sandpoint should see temperatures a few degrees cooler than Spokane.
