Area roundup: Whitworth volleyball extends streak to six

The Whitworth volleyball team ran its winning streak to six matches with a sweep of Pacific in a Northwest Conference match Saturday in Forest Grove, Oregon.

Brenna Bruil had 10 kills, Maddye Dinsmore dished out 27 assists and Mallorie Schoesler added 13 digs as the Pirates (17-5, 10-2) beat the Boxers (6-14, 2-10) 25-13, 25-16 and 25-19.

It was Whitworth’s 10th win in its past 11 matches.

The Pirates host Willamette Friday.

• Savannah Blinn had 23 kills and Jordan Gasser added 13 kills and 14 digs as Gonzaga (14-6, 5-4) beat Portland (5-15, 0-9) in a West Coast Conference match in Portland, Oregon. Scores were 21-25, 25-18, 25-19 and 25-19.

McKayla Ferris added 14 kills for GU and Lauren Joseph dished out 48 assists.

Emily Liger led the Pilots with 21 kills.

The Bulldogs play at Loyola Marymount on Thursday.

• Kellen Barfield had 11 kills and Ryann Ensrud had 11 digs as Eastern Washington (9-14, 5-5) swept Weber State (6-18, 2-8) in a Big Sky Conference match at Reese Court in Cheney. Scores were 25-22, 25-22 and 25-20.

The Eagles, winners of three of their past four, play at Montana on Thursday.

• Tressa Lyman led a balanced attack with nine kills and 14 digs and Idaho State (15-8, 9-1) swept Idaho (11-11, 7-3) in a Big Sky Conference match in Moscow, Idaho. Scores were 25-13, 25-21 and 25-22.

Katelyn Peterson led Idaho with seven kills and 15 digs.

• Brittany Aldridge had 13 kills and Maddi Seidl had 48 assists as North Idaho (8-9, 3-5) defeated Snow (17-6, 4-4) in a Scenic West Athletic Conference match in Coeur d’Alene. Scores were 25-21, 17-25, 25-23 and 25-21.

• Community Colleges of Spokane (27-11, 8-2) recovered after dropping the first two sets and beat Treasure Valley (11-21, 0-9) in a Northwest Athletic Conference match in Ontario, Oregon. Scores were 23-25, 19-25, 25-13, 25-19 and 15-12.

Men’s soccer

Micheal Ramos’ unassisted goal in the 104th minute lifted Whitworth (12-1-2, 7-1-2) to a 1-0 double-overtime win over Pacific (5-9-1, 2-7-1) in a Northwest Conference match in Spokane.

The Pirates held a commanding 43-4 shot advantage, but could only get one past Boxers’ keeper Leyton Thommasen, who made 13 saves. Whitworth hosts George Fox today before closing out the regular season with three road matches.

• Adam Talley scored off an assist from Alec Johnson in the 25th minute and North Idaho (14-1-2, 12-1-1) held on to beat Wenatchee Valley (10-3-3, 9-3-2) 1-0 in a Northwest Athletic Conference match in Coeur d’Alene.

Women’s soccer

Courtney Potter scored her first goal of the season from the top of the 18-yard box late in the second half to send Whitworth (5-10-1, 4-8) past Pacific (5-9-2, 2-8-1) 1-0 in a Northwest Conference match in Spokane.

McKenzie Hemp assisted on the match-winner.

The Pirates host Linfield today.

• Meghan Pagano, Jaimee Hulst and Katelyn Sly all scored second-half goals and North Idaho (9-2-8, 8-2-7) defeated Wenatchee Valley (1-14-3, 1-12-3) 3-1 in a Northwest Ahtletic Conference match in Coeur d’Alene.

Junior hockey

The 100 Mile House Wranglers (6-7-0-1) clipped the Spokane Braves 3-2 in a KIJHL game in 100 Mile House, British Columbia.

Garrett Graham and Tanner Stolz scored goals for Spokane (7-6-0-3).
