Lake City solidifies spot as area’s best team

Lake City has to like the view from the top of the NWPrepsNow Power Rankings. The Timberwolves (7-1) were tabbed No. 1 with 59 points for the second straight week. They locked up the Inland Empire League 5A championship last week with a 61-20 win at Lewiston. Now Lake City will enjoy a bye this week as Idaho teams begin postseason play. “Lake City earned the top spot last week and they weren’t about to give it up,” SWX producer Neil Stover said. “Another dominant performance by Jerry Louie-McGee and company, and the Timberwolves are going to be a force to be reckoned with in the Idaho playoffs.” Coeur d’Alene (6-3) was ranked second last week and in the poll all season until Post Falls (5-4) upset the Vikings 37-36 as time expired Friday. The Viks dropped out of the rankings. Lind-Ritzville/Sprague (8-0), winners of 34 straight, jumped up to second with 46 points. “A rematch with Reardan is on the horizon and will be a terrific game,” SWX color commentator Bill Ames said. Colville (8-0) is third with 44 points. “Colville beat Deer Park 32-14. Not the sharpest effort for Colville but a win is a win,” radio color commentator Paul Sorensen said. Rounding out the top six are Gonzaga Prep (7-1) with 27 points, Freeman (7-1) with 14 and Shadle Park (6-2) with 12 moved back into the rankings. “Gonzaga Prep beat a very underrated Lewis and Clark team using the trait of all great teams – sound special teams play,” SWX web coordinator Josh Ouellette said. There will be one final poll next week.
