Area roundup: LMU defeats Gonzaga in volleyball

Loyola Marymount’s Litara Keil ended the fifth set with three consecutive kills and the Lions clipped Gonzaga in a West Coast Conference volleyball match Thursday night in Los Angeles. Scores were 17-25, 25-20, 25-17, 22-25 and 20-18.

Keil finished with a team-high 21 kills, including five in the final set.

Savannah Blinn led the Bulldogs (14-7, 5-5) with a match-high 23 kills and Jordan Gasser added 11 kills and nine digs.

It was GU’s third loss in its past four matches following a four-match winning streak. The Lions improved to 18-5 overall and 6-5 in the WCC.

• Claire McCown and Janell Sparks had 15 kills apiece and Montana (6-17, 6-5) recovered after dropping the opening set and beat Eastern Washington (9-15, 5-6) in a Big Sky match in Missoula. Scores were 20-25, 25-23, 25-20 and 25-16.

The Eagles’ Kelsey Julian had a match-high 16 kills and Sophie Miller added 34 assists and 11 digs.

• Alyssa Schultz and Ali Forde each had 10 kills and Idaho (12-11, 8-3) made quick work of Montana State (4-19, 1-10), sweeping the Bobcats in a Big Sky match in Bozeman.

Katelyn Peterson added nine kills and 12 digs for the Vandals, who have won six of their past seven matches.

Women’s soccer

Illinois State (13-5) scored five first-half goals and blanked Idaho 8-0 in a nonconference match in Normal, Illinois.

It was the final regular-season match for Idaho (4-14-2), which needs help from conference opponents to earn a spot in the Big Sky tournament.
