In brief: Downtown Spokane fight leaves man in critical condition
Spokane police said a man was hospitalized in critical condition after a fight downtown Sunday morning.
Patrol officers responded to the report of an assault in the area of Sprague Avenue and Stevens Street just before 2:30 a.m. Medics were called to treat a man who had been involved in the altercation and was unresponsive.
According to witnesses, the injured man walked in front of a taxi and initiated a confrontation. What happened next is still under investigation by Spokane Police Major Crimes detectives. No arrests have been made.

Rollover injures 3 in pickup
Three young men were injured Saturday in an alcohol-related rollover on state Route 211 about 10 miles west of Newport, the Washington State Patrol said.
A 1998 Chevrolet pickup driven by Quinton C. Williams, 19, of Spokane, was northbound when Williams lost control and rolled it several times. The pickup came to rest in the northbound ditch about 8:49 p.m.
Williams was taken to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, as was a passenger, James P. McGoldrick, 20, of Spokane. A second passenger, Marcus D. Halligan, 21, of Spokane Valley, was taken to Newport Community Hospital.
Williams faces a driving under the influence charge, the WSP said.
Crash victim dies of injuries
A Moses Lake man has died from injuries he received in a car wreck Wednesday.
Trenton Wilson, 25, suffered massive head and back injuries when his 2001 Dodge Ram pickup rolled and struck a power pole on a rural county road, the Grant County Sheriff’s Office said.
He was flown to Confluence Health Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee. Authorities said Sunday Wilson succumbed to his injuries.
Nine hurt in 50-car pileup
RICHLAND – Authorities said nine people were hurt in an interstate pileup involving about 50 cars during a dust storm Saturday in southeastern Washington.
The Tri-City Herald reported that the nine people were taken to nearby hospitals but none had life-threatening injuries.
Capt. Devin Helland of Benton Fire District 1 said most of the crashes were rear-end collisions and spin-outs that were hit by other vehicles as dust reduced visibility. The collisions happened on Interstate 82 just south of Kennewick.
The crashes started about 3:30 p.m.
SEATTLE – Seattle police said an armed man was shot and killed by officers after he fired at them Saturday night.
The police department said officers responded to calls of shots fired in Seattle’s Queen Anne neighborhood about 10:30 p.m. Saturday. When they arrived, the man was still outside a house with his weapon in sight and rifle-trained officers took positions. The man went inside the home but came back outside moments later and opened fire. Officers fired back, wounding the man.
According to police, the wounded man crawled back inside. A SWAT team robot entered the home later and found the man dead.
Inside the home, officers found body armor and multiple firearms, including semi-automatic rifles and shotguns, near the front door.
