VANCOUVER, British Columbia – The Spokane Indians’ Canadian visit was extended an extra day.
Heavy, persistent rain Tuesday forced the postponement of Game 1 of the Northwest League’s North Division playoffs between the Indians and Vancouver Canadians at Nat Bailey Stadium.
The game was rescheduled for 7:05 p.m. today. Game 2, originally set for 6:30 p.m. today at Avista Stadium, was moved to 6:30 p.m. Thursday. Game 3 of the best-of-3 series, if necessary, will be played at 4 p.m. Friday at Avista.
The Indians originally expected to play Game 3 at 6:30 p.m. Thursday. They’d arranged for a 4 p.m. Friday home game in case they qualified for the NWL Championship Series. Now, because of conflicts with the Spokane County Interstate Fair, the Indians may be forced to play all games on the road if they make the best-of-3 championship series.
The Indians arrived in Vancouver on Saturday for a three-game series to cap the regular season. The Canadians clinched the North’s second-half title on Sunday and ended up sweeping the first-half champion Indians.
Spokane and Vancouver split 12 games during the regular season.
The projected starters for Game 1 are Indians left-hander Derek Thompson (4-6, 3.21 earned-run average) and Canadians lefty Ryan Borucki (1-1, 1.90), a late-season call-up from the Appalachian Rookie League who started four games.
The Indians updated their roster for the series. Left-hander Nick Dignacco, drafted out of Army, was placed on the military inactive list; infielder Tripp Martin was added; and five players were promoted from the Arizona Rookie League: left-handers Joe Filomeno and Joe Palumbo, right-hander Ariel Jurado, catcher Sherman Lacrus and outfielder Carlos Arroyo.
