Cilic, Nishikori rise

U.S. Open champion Marin Cilic’s first Grand Slam title moved him up to No. 9 from No. 16 in the ATP rankings, while runner-up Kei Nishikori rose three spots to a career-best No. 8. Cilic beat Nishikori 6-3, 6-3, 6-3 in Monday’s final at Flushing, New York. Serena Williams’ third consecutive U.S. Open championship allowed her to keep her No. 1 WTA ranking. Runner-up Caroline Wozniacki moved to No. 9 from No. 11. Novak Djokovic stayed at No. 1, followed by Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer. In the semifinals, Cilic beat Federer, and Nishikori eliminated Djokovic. Andy Murray dropped out of the top 10, going from No. 9 to No. 11. – AP
