Fresh Sheet: Encanto Dinner, Hacienda Las Flores, fair food

Hispanic Heritage Month is in full swing – and there are a couple of food-related ways to celebrate.

Tickets for the Encanto Gala Dinner and Auction cost $100. The event is 5:30 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Spokane Convention Center, 334 W. Spokane Falls Blvd.

The Fiesta Spokane Film Festival features Hispanic food vendors as well as music, dancing, performers and, of course, movies. It runs 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 20 in the Gondola Meadow in Riverfront Park.

Hacienda Las Flores

The family-friendly Mexican restaurant, formerly located on South Freya Street at East Fifth Avenue, has moved to Browne’s Addition.

Hacienda Las Flores serves lunch and dinner, and offers specials every day, like all-you-can-eat tacos on Tuesday and Thursdays for $6.99. Monday, it’s happy hour all day. Sunday, children dine for 99 cents.

Its new location is at 1801 W. Sunset Blvd.

It’s fair time

To help you decide what to nosh on at the 2014 Spokane County Interstate Fair, its organizers compiled a top 10 list. The fair runs through Sunday at the Spokane County Fair and Expo Center, 404 N. Havana St.

Here are favorite foods – in the order that the fair folks recommended:

• Funnel cakes, particularly the Maple Bacon Funnel Cake

• Doughnut hamburger, a beef patty wedged between two doughnuts

• Deep-fried butter

• Hand-dipped corn dogs

• Any kind of barbecue

• Elephant ears

• Corn on the cob

• Turkey leg

• Italian sausage, served with green pepper and onions

• Huckleberry ice cream
