Pakootas a responsible leader

At a recent “Conversation with Cathy,” Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers expressed concern about President Obama’s intention to use executive action to move immigration reform forward. Republicans in the House refuse to let the immigration bill passed by the Senate go to the floor for a vote. The leadership, which includes our congresswoman, knows that the bill would pass with bipartisan support.

Now that the president has said that he will wait to act alone until after the election, the House must either bring the Senate bill to the floor or propose and vote on its own immigration reform package. If House Republican leaders do not do so, we have our answer to the question, “Is Cathy McMorris Rodgers a responsible and effective representative?”

The people of the 5th Congressional District need a representative who is willing and capable of forming consensus with other legislators to get the big jobs done, not petulantly blocking any opportunity for constructive compromise. Joe Pakootas, a community leader and successful chief executive officer, is running for Congress and would be such a person. He has proven his ability to negotiate with local, national and international leaders. We need representation that is, in fact, interested in the needs of all citizens of the 5th and is willing to work to meet their needs.
