U.S. pulls away from Canada in exhibition
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: Nneka Ogwumike scored 10 points and the U.S. used a big run in the third quarter to beat Canada 76-51 on Monday night in an exhibition game in Bridgeport, Connecticut.
The Americans scored the first 13 points of the third quarter. Tina Charles, who was scoreless in the first half, had seven points during the game-changing spurt.
By the time Katherine Plouffe hit a layup for Canada to end the run, the U.S. led 48-31.
Champagne enters FIFA president race
SOCCER: Former FIFA international relations director Jerome Champagne has confirmed his plan to challenge president Sepp Blatter in next year’s election.
The former French diplomat launched his campaign in London in January, and said then he doubted he could beat Blatter, who plans to announce his candidacy next week.

Miami reserve quarterback arrested
FOOTBALL: University of Miami reserve quarterback Kevin Olsen has been arrested on charges of driving under the influence and possession of a fake or stolen driver’s license.
Athletic Director Blake James said Olsen, currently fourth on the depth chart, was suspended indefinitely from the team pending further review.
