Obituary: Jackman, Betty (Foth)

Age 88

JACKMAN, Betty (Foth) On September 13, 2014, Betty F. Jackman, 88, went into the arms of her loving Heavenly Father.

Helen Elizabeth, (Betty) was born on August 2, 1926 to Henry S. and Marie M. (Stelting) Foth in Hillsboro, Kansas.

She joined her sister, Mae Ruth and they welcomed another sister, Gladys Marie in 1929.

Betty graduated from Classen High School in 1943.

She then studied secretarial courses at Oklahoma City College.

During the summer of 1945, she met the love of her life, Hugh Cowles Jackman, Jr. Hugh was in the Navy and stationed at Norman, Oklahoma.

After a whirlwind courtship, they were married on September 30, 1945, a marriage that lasted 62 years until Hugh passed away on July 5, 2008.

Betty had various jobs throughout her life.

She worked at Fairchild Air Force Base, Spokane, WA, and Department of Welfare Office in Spokane, WA, Eastern State Hospital in Medical Lake, WA and finished her career at Interlake School retiring after 23 years, in 1986.

Music played a big part of Betty’s life.

Betty and her sisters sang as a trio, and in high school she was second soprano in the girl’s quartet.

Betty was a member of Monday Musicale in Spokane, WA.

In 1971, Betty and her daughters formed a trio and entered the Grange Family Music contest.

After winning at the state level they went to West Virginia to compete and place 1st at the National level.

Betty was the choir director for the Protestant Choir at Fairchild Air Force Base, Spokane, WA and competed against all other air force base choirs and placed 3rd.

Betty loved to read, work jigsaw puzzles, singing, playing her piano and organ.

She did taxes for 20 years for the AARP Tax Aide Program.

She loved to cook and hosted many family holiday dinners.

Her ability in singing led her to be the soprano soloist for eight years at the First Presbyterian Church in Spokane.

She also directed a choir at the Reardan Presbyterian Church.

Her first love was singing praises to her Lord with the beautiful gift God gave her.

Most important was her family and the activities they were involved in from music to athletics.

They made trips back to Oklahoma to visit family and saw lots of scenery, national monuments, parks and other tourist attractions.

Survived by her children and spouses-Beth and Al Clark, Deer Park, WA, Marie and Melvin Collier, La Grande, OR, Stephen Jackman, Yakima, WA, Dale and Pam Jackman, Yakima, WA, and daughter-in-law Sandy Jackman, Yakima, WA; 13 grandchildren, Theresa Cutright, James, Bill and Jon Warner, Jason Collier, Andrea Jackman, Tiae Hoffman, Ashley Carle, Joshua, Jordan and Cord Jackman, Isaac and Jacob Clark; 21 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her husband of 62 years Hugh C Jackman, Jr., son Lee Allen Jackman, parents Henry S. and Marie Foth, in-laws Hugh and Clara Jackman, sisters and brother and sister-in-laws.

A Memorial Service will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 19th at KEITH AND KEITH NINTH AVENUE CHAPEL, YAKIMA, WA.
