In brief: County fair kicks off in Rockford

ROCKFORD – The Southeast Spokane County Fair runs Friday through Sunday in the park at 26 Willow St. in Rockford.

This year’s theme is “Still Cruisin’ at 70.”

The fair is open 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Highway 278 will be closed for the children’s and grand parades from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday.

Flowers, quilts will be showcased

SOUTH HILL – The Friends of the Moore-Turner Heritage Gardens is hosting Art in Bloom, a flower and quilt show at Corbin Art Center from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday.

Admission to the show is $2.50.

A 10 a.m. class on floral design is offered by The Gilded Lily’s Toi Mulligan. The class is $10, register by calling (509) 625-6677.

The Moore-Turner Heritage Gardens remain open Wednesdays through Sundays from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. until the end of September.

The gardens and Corbin Art Center are at 507 W. Seventh Ave.

Car seat checkups at Becker Buick

DOWNTOWN – Becker Buick GMC, 636 E. Sprague Ave., is offering free car seat checkups on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in conjunction with Child Passenger Safety Week.

Renaissance fair geared for kids

MANITO PARK – The Children’s Renaissance Faire is Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the area east of Duncan Gardens near Tekoa Street.

Children’s activities include face painting and fish printing, a knighting ceremony, a bean bag castle, dragon chases and many other things.
