Pac-12 picks: Utah takes big trip to Michigan

Give credit to Utah for making a trip to the Big House to make Week 4 interesting for Pac-12 viewers. The rest of the nonconference schedule is as bland as a beige rainbow.

The week’s most interesting storyline can be found in Colorado, where the Buffaloes take on a Hawaii team that lost close games against Washington and Oregon State. Can we just decide that the winner of that game gets to stay in the Pac-12?

All games are Saturday, all picks should be used for kindling purposes only.

Hawaii at Colorado, CU by 7 1/2: The fact that the Buffaloes are only favored by a touchdown at home against a Mountain West team that just lost its best offensive weapon is only mildly disturbing. Colorado 27-17

Utah at Michigan, UM by 5: Utah has traveled to Michigan twice since 2002 and always seems to play well. The Utes will do it again and Kyle Whittingham will get the big win he needs to put Utah back on the map. Utah 28-24

Georgia State at Washington, UW by 35 1/2: Georgia State decided to have a football program in 2008. Let us know when it happens. Washington 42-17

California at Arizona, UA by 10: The Golden Bears’ miracle run of two wins comes to an end in the desert. Arizona 38-27

Oregon at Washington State, UO by 24: The Cougars come away feeling good after putting it together on offense, defense and special teams for the second consecutive week. That’s just enough to keep it close until the third quarter. Oregon 45-27

San Diego State at Oregon State, OSU by 10: Sean Mannion will have to get the ball out quickly against a defense that will blitz its linebackers, safeties, mascot and band. Oregon State 38-24

Last week: 7-1 straight up, 1-5 against the spread.

Overall: 26-5 straight up, 8-15 against the spread.
