Post Falls gets it done against East Valley

A solid effort on the football field, homecoming festivities and postgame fireworks.

The Post Falls Trojans had an enjoyable Friday night, punctuated by a 33-7 nonleague victory over visiting East Valley.

Senior quarterback Dalton Thompson ran for three touchdowns as the Trojans evened their record at 2-2. Post Falls limited East Valley (1-2) to 188 total yards.

“Our kids took a step forward,” Post Falls coach Jeff Hinz said. “We’ve had a couple tough losses but the kids battled back. It was a tough week on them. We wanted to keep it simple. We talked about knowing our assignment, doing our job, taking care of the football and being physical.”

The Trojans checked off all of those goals, rushing for 246 yards and only punting once, late in the fourth quarter.

Post Falls built a 14-0 lead in the first quarter on touchdown runs by Chaz Bailey and Thompson.

East Valley cut the deficit in half, converting two fourth downs before quarterback Connor Ramm tossed a 6-yard scoring strike to Alex Bowdish.

Thompson guided the Trojans downfield, connecting with Jacob Koski on 13- and 28-yard pass plays. Thompson’s 10-yard run finished off an 85-yard drive.

The Knights threatened just before half but defensive back Zach Hillman made a touchdown-saving tackle on a 34-yard screen pass to Andrew Allen. Three plays later Koski batted away a pass in the end zone. Bowdish’s 28-yard field-goal attempt was blocked by Richie Hauser.

“We had some opportunities to keep it close and get it within seven at the end of the first half and we just didn’t capitalize,” EV coach Adam Fisher said. “We had some breakdowns on tackling and simple assignments. We didn’t line up properly at times and if you can’t do that you’re going to get exposed.”

Thompson completed 9 of 12 passes for 138 yards and added 63 yards on the ground. He eluded tacklers on two zone option runs that resulted in touchdowns.

“He’s a great athlete,” Fisher said, “so he presents problems in open space.”

Post Falls scored on its opening possession of the third quarter to extend its lead to 27-7.

Sophomore running back Collin Hildreth, who had all of his team-high 79 yards rushing in the fourth quarter, raced 44 yards for Post Falls’ fifth rushing TD.
