Sounders take on New York

The Seattle Sounders enter today’s match against New York at Red Bull Arena (4:30 p.m., NBC Sports) still riding the momentum from its fourth U.S. Open Cup title clinched Tuesday in Philadelphia. The Sounders are three points clear of every challenger both for the Supporters’ Shield and the top seed in the Western Conference, with a game in hand on every team in the top half of the standings. No team has ever won the Open Cup, Supporters’ Shield and MLS Cup in the same season. Yet the Sounders have already won one and remain in the driver’s seat for the other two.
