Age 84

KOENEN, Doris J.

(Oma) November 26, 1929 - September 15, 2014 Doris passed away at Hospice House North after a valiant fight with cancer.

She always had a positive attitude and a smile for those people that cared for her.

She was born and raised in Spokane and spent her whole life here.

She married William Koenen and spent 46 wonderful years with him.

They were avid campers with the Silver Sam Camper Club after she retired after 20 years from Whitworth College in the bakery department.

She was known for her homemade pies and desserts, and loved to play bridge.

She was preceded in death by her husband William and daughter Michelle, three brothers and three sisters.

She is survived by a twin sister Dorothy Sullivan; and sister-in-law Johanna Berkers; son Larry, daughter-in-law Lori Koenen; and grandchildren Jackie, Jesse, Taylor, and Brooke Koenen.

Doris is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

She was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Charles Parish for over 50 years and a member of the Ave Maria Guild.

She also enjoyed her time with Sharon and her family at Deer Lake.

The family would like to thank Rockwood Cancer Care in the valley, Dr. Whittenkeller, Marie, Lisa, and the entire staff for their support and encouragement.

Also, especially Sharon Sewell who was such a big help to my Mom in her last couple of months.

Also the Angels at Hospice House North that cared for her in her last couple of days.

A Rosary will be on Friday, September 26 at 5 pm at St. Charles, 4515 N Alberta St., Spokane, WA.

A Funeral Mass will be at St. Charles on Saturday, September 27 at 11 am.

Father Tom Connolly will officiate.
