Vote for Clover

It isn’t too late to cast a vote for Clover.

The Spokane restaurant and bar has been nominated as one of The People’s Best New Bars in a contest hosted by Food & Wine magazine and Roca Patrón tequila.

Voting runs through Tuesday. Winners will be announced Oct. 2.

The bar with the most votes will be named The People’s Best New Bar for 2014. Five regional winners – out of 100 nominees – will also be named.

Clover’s cocktail menu was created by co-owner Paul Harrington, author of “Cocktail: The Drinks Bible for the 21st Century.”

Festival of Chefs

The Festival of Chefs takes place Oct. 2, but tickets for the first-time event are on sale now.

Sample chefs’ signature dishes as well as wine and beer – participants must be 21 or over – at nine new homes throughout the region.

The event runs from 4 to 8 p.m. and features bites from chefs of the Women & Children’s Free Restaurant, Wasabi Bistro, Clinkerdagger, Cake (the bakery of Chaps), Luna Restaurant & Catering, Latah Bistro, Ambrosia Bistro & Wine Bar, Ferrante’s Marketplace Café and Hay J’s Bistro.

Homes are grouped in three areas: North Spokane, South Spokane and Spokane Valley/Liberty Lake. Tickets are $35.

A portion of the proceeds from the fest, presented by the Spokane Home Builders Association in conjunction with the Fall Festival of Homes, will be donated to the Women & Children’s Free Restaurant, which provides meals for women and children in need.

Squash sale

Farmer Polly Taylor Dennler is showing off and selling this year’s crop at her annual Pumpkin, Squash and Gourd Sale.

The event takes place 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at Dennler Farm, 1041 Dennler Loop in Juliaetta, Idaho.
