Spokane police arrest teen is stabbings

An 18-year-old accused of sending three men to the hospital last week with serious injuries told police that he stabbed them in self-defense when they confronted him after he slashed a tire on the car driven by one of the victims.

Dustin T. Henneman was booked into the Spokane County Jail this week. He was interviewed Sept. 17, the night of the stabbings, but not arrested. But on Wednesday, Henneman’s girlfriend, who witnessed the stabbings, recanted a key part of her story, according to court documents.

The stabbings occurred in front of a home at 1413 E. Broad Ave. Officers searched the neighborhood for the stabber and eventually were led to Henneman at 544 E. Rich Ave. when they received a call from Henneman’s grandmother, court documents state.

The documents indicated that Henneman and his girlfriend told police the stabbing was self-defense. She said they were walking down the street when several men drove by and shouted vulgarities at her. Henneman gave chase and there was a fight, during which she was injured, she told police.

Henneman told officers he was mad and went back to the location to slash their tires, according to court documents. When he did so, the three men attacked him with weapons and he defended himself, he told police.

However, court documents state, Henneman’s girlfriend told police this week that the injuries she showed police the night of the stabbing were in fact inflicted by Henneman during a domestic violence incident that day when he grabbed her by the hair and threw her to the ground.

The three stabbing victims, Warren O’Neal, Sebastian Perry and Devon Collier, denied yelling obscenities before the first fight and also said they were unarmed during the second altercation. They said they thought they were being punched by Henneman and didn’t realize they had been stabbed until blood appeared.

Collier had to have his gall bladder removed, O’Neal suffered a severed artery in his arm and also was stabbed in the leg, and Perry suffered a punctured lung, according to court documents.

Henneman, who faces three charges of second-degree assault with a deadly weapon, also had minor injuries. He told police he accidentally cut himself during the fight.
