University shuts out North Central, 56-0

The Greater Spokane (non)-League football game on homecoming night Friday at University versus North Central was a decidedly one-sided affair.

By halftime the game was being played under the state’s 40-point mercy-rule running clock and the second-half whizzed by as the 4A Titans (3-1) dismantled the 3A Indians 56-0.

NC (1-3) managed just 16 yards of total offense in the first half and 59 for the game. U-Hi scored on every possession it didn’t fumble away for a 42-0 lead at intermission. The Titans, who finished with 377 yards, cleared their bench in the second half and scored twice more.

“They’re young and we just executed really well,” U-Hi coach Rob Bartlett said. “We stuck to our game plan and did what we wanted to do. (Quarterback) Logan (O’Neil) got some work through the air. And it’s great when everyone in your program gets to play.”

U-Hi, like the GSL in general, is young, too. The hosts struck first on a 51-yard Tanner Chase run. NC fumbled the kickoff and it was 14-0 3 minutes into the game. Back-to-back 25-yard plays made it 21-0 and U-Hi was up by four touchdowns after a quarter following another Indians turnover.

The Titans scored through the air, highlighted by a 93-yard O’Neil pass to Jordan Moore, who had three second-half receptions for 147 yards. O’Neil threw for 226 and two scores. And they scored on the ground, Bryce Williamson with two TDs, although his 77 rushing yards were well below his season average.
