ACA helped local business

As a small-business owner with one employee, I wanted to be a good employer and provide my one employee with health care benefits. Unfortunately, at age 21 she was in a serious car accident and broke her back is several places.

Prior to the Affordable Care Act passing, I was unable to purchase health insurance for her due to her pre-existing condition. I was repeatedly told that our “pool” was too small to provide her with health insurance. Every time she got sick, I would give her a couple of hundred bucks to go see a doctor and hope that she had nothing catastrophic wrong with her.

Preventative health care appointments such as OB-GYN visits and mammograms were out of my price range and therefore out of my employee’s price range. Once the ACA passed, I was finally able to purchase affordable insurance for my employee and be the good employer that I had wanted to be for several years.

The ACA helped my small business be more competitive with larger employers’ compensation packages. Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers, please stop trying to ruin the program that has helped my small business in your legislative district.
