Nuxoll invited to temple

Regarding Idaho Sen. Sheryl Nuxoll’s words (March 4) about a Hindu prayer at the state Capitol: I am sorry that she may not understand one of the great parts of our country: the acceptance of all differences. It’s what has and will continue to make this country great.

Diversity means strength. We may have different skills, talents and beliefs, but together we can work toward something better for all of us. I fear that maybe she has not explored other cultures and belief systems. If she experienced other faiths firsthand, her fears would be allayed.

All faiths strive for the same basic values of treating others as you would like to be treated. With that in mind, I most sincerely invite her to join me at the Spokane Buddhist Temple one Sunday so that she could experience how devout and hardworking our little Buddhist community is.

I hope that it would dispel her fears that even though we don’t believe in her god, we still work toward understanding, compassion and love for all – as do many other faith traditions. I have written a personal invitation to her, but wanted to extend it to anyone else in the community.
