Weather: Spring continues to fluctuate

Spring continues its back-and-forth, sunny-to-showery pattern through the weekend.

National Weather Service forecasters are saying today and Friday should be on the pleasant side with mostly sunny skies and highs near 60.

Friday could be a bit breezy.

Then, a vigorous cold front and low pressure area are likely to approach the Inland Northwest on Friday night and keep the region under clouds, showers and strong breezes through Saturday with improving weather Sunday.

Temperatures on Saturday and Sunday will be between 8 to 10 degrees cooler with lows near freezing on Saturday night. Highs both days should be in the lower 50s.

The colder air sets the stage for a chance of rain and snow showers on Saturday night and Sunday in North Idaho while Spokane should stay dry.

In addition, another Saturday wind storm is expected with sustained southwest winds in excess of 20 mph and gusts to about 34 mph in Spokane.

In North Idaho, Coeur d’Alene can expect higher chances of showers, including a slight chance of a thunderstorm today. Highs will go from near 60 today and Friday to about 50 on Saturday and Sunday.

In Sandpoint there is greater chance for showers, especially Friday night – which has a 70-percent chance – through Sunday.
