Area roundup: Dan Scheibe’s no-hitter leads Whitworth past Linfield

Dan Scheibe’s no-hitter propelled Whitworth past Linfield 2-0 in the first round of the inaugural Northwest Conference baseball tournament on Friday in Parkland, Washington.

The senior right-hander pitched all nine innings, giving up just two walks while striking out 11 Linfield (27-11) batters. It was the first no-hitter by a Whitworth pitcher since Matt Squires no-hit George Fox in a seven-inning game in 2001.

An RBI single by Nick Motsinger in the second inning and an RBI double by Matthew Nelson in the fifth gave Scheibe all the support he needed.
