Curry helps Warriors sweep away Pelicans

Stephen Curry hit six 3-pointers during a 39-point night, and the visiting Golden State Warriors cruised to 109-98 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans, completing a sweep of their first-round playoff series.

Klay Thompson added 25 points for the Warriors, the NBA’s top overall seed, who will host the winner of the Portland-Memphis matchup.

Draymond Green added 22 points and 10 rebounds for Golden State.

Anthony Davis had 36 points and 11 rebounds in the loss.

• Bayless’ layup at buzzer gives Bucks win over Bulls: Jerryd Bayless made a layup at the buzzer off an inbounds pass, lifting Milwaukee to a 92-90 victory over the visiting Chicago Bulls, drawing the Bucks within 3-1 in their Eastern Conference playoff series.

With 1.3 seconds left, Jared Dudley threw a high-arcing pass toward the basket from side court. Bayless caught the ball and quickly threw up the layup for the game-winning basket.

Game 5 is Monday in Chicago.

• Nets beat Hawks, pull within 2-1 in series: Brook Lopez had 22 points and 13 rebounds, Thaddeus Young added 18 points and 11 rebounds, and the Brooklyn Nets beat Atlanta 91-83 in New York, cutting the Hawks’ lead to 2-1 in the Eastern Conference playoff series.

DeMarre Carroll scored a playoff career-high 22 points for the Hawks.

• Grizzlies hold off a late Trail Blazers rally to go up 3-0: Marc Gasol had 25 points and the visiting Memphis Grizzlies took a 3-0 lead in their playoff series over the Trail Blazers by withstanding a late Portland rally for a 115-109 victory.

Courtney Lee had 20 points and Mike Conley added 14 before leaving the game late in the third quarter with a facial injury.

Nicolas Batum finished with 27 points for the Blazers, who have dropped seven straight games.

• Mavs’ Carlisle fined for criticizing refs after loss: Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle was fined $25,000 for criticizing officials after a loss to Houston that left Dallas trailing 3-0 in a first-round playoff series.

Carlisle came close to getting called for a technical foul several times during the Rockets’ 130-128 win in Game 3 Friday night.

Islanders beat Capitals to force Game 7

NHL: Nikolay Kulemin scored the go-ahead goal with 9:27 left and the New York Islanders beat the Washington Capitals 3-1 in Uniondale, New York, to force Game 7 in the first-round playoff series.

Islanders captain John Tavares had a goal and assist.

The Capitals host the deciding game Monday night.

• Mrazek shuts down Lightning, Red Wings win: Petr Mrazek stopped 28 shots and the Detroit Red Wings rebounded from a disappointing loss to shut down the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-0 in Tampa, Florida, and take a 3-2 lead in the first-round NHL playoff series.

The Red Wings host Game 6 Monday night.

• Keith scores, Blackhawks eliminate Predators: Duncan Keith scored at 16:12 of the third, and the Chicago Blackhawks beat the visiting Nashville Predators 4-3 to win their first-round playoff series 4-2.

Keith also had two assists in the clinching game.

• Flames beat Canucks to advance: Matt Stajan broke a tie with 4:17 left and the Calgary Flames beat the Vancouver Canucks 7-4, in Calgary, Alberta, to win the Western Conference playoff series 4-2 and advance to face the Anaheim Ducks in the second round.

Michael Ferland and Jiri Hudler scored twice for Calgary.

The Canucks had a 3-0 lead midway through the first period.

Compton, Day top rain-plagued Zurich

Golf: Erik Compton birdied four of six holes after a nearly six-hour rain delay, giving the two-time heart transplant recipient a share of the lead with Jason Day early in the third round of the rain-plagued Zurich Classic in Avondale, Louisiana.

Compton and Day were at 13 under when play was suspended because of darkness.

• Lyle, Woosnam team to lead Legends of Golf: Ian Woosnam and Sandy Lyle took a two-stroke lead in the Champions Tour’s Bass Pro Shops Legends of Golf in Ridgedale, Missouri.

Woosnam and Lyle shot a 6-under 64 in better-ball play to reach 13 under.

In the Legends Division for players 65 and older, Larry Nelson and Larry Fleisher had a four-stroke lead at 11 under. • Canadian teen Henderson has 1-shot lead in LPGA Tour event: Brooke Henderson holds a one-shot lead going into the final round of the Swinging Skirts LPGA Classic in Daly City, California.

Henderson led by as many as five shots until making bogeys on her last two holes. The 17-year-old Canadian had to settle for an even-par 72.

U.S. women win 800-meter relay

Track and Field: Porscha Lucas led Team USA to victory in the women’s 800-meter relay at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia and the Americans won four of six events in the U.S.A. vs. The World races.

Leslie Cole, Tawanna Meadows and Cambrya Jones completed the team that beat Jamaica by seven-thousandths of a second.

• Stowers stuns field to win 100 hurdles at Drake Relays : Jasmin Stowers blew past a 100-meter hurdles field that included 2012 Olympic gold medalist Dawn Harper-Nelson and Queen Harrison to win in a Drake Relays-record 12.40 seconds in Des Moines, Iowa.

Francena McCoroy broke a 28-year-old meet record in the 400 with a world-leading 50.13.

Wozniacki advances at Porsche Grand Prix

Miscellany: Caroline Wozniacki will play Angelique Kerber in the final of the Porsche Grand Prix in Stuttgart, Germany, after they won their semifinals in contrasting fashion.

Wozniacki beat second-seeded Simona Halep 7-5, 5-7, 6-2, while home favorite Kerber beat Madison Brengle 6-3, 6-1.

• Watford back in Premier League: Watford will return to the Premier League after an eight-year absence after winning and its promotion rivals lost in England’s second tier.

Watford beat Brighton 2-0 away to stay top of the league, and then saw third-place Middlesbrough lose and fourth-place Norwich draw.

• U.S. routs Canada in under-18 hockey worlds:

The United States defeated Canada 7-2 to advance to the final of the under-18 world hockey championship in Zug, Switzerland. The U.S. will play for the gold medal today against Finland.

• Tomac wins Supercross race at MetLife Stadium: Eli Tomac raced to his third victory of the AMA Supercross season, beating 450SX series champion Ryan Dungey at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

• Demetrious Johnson retains title at UFC 186: Demetrious Johnson retained his UFC flyweight champion title in Montreal, tapping out Kyoji Horiguchi with 1 second left.

In the co-main event, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson earned his first UFC win since 2011 with a unanimous decision over Brazilian Fabio Maldonado.
