In brief: Valley committee position open

SPOKANE VALLEY – There’s one opening on Spokane Valley’s Lodging Tax Advisory Committee and the application deadline is Friday. Applicants from organizations that attract visitors to Spokane Valley are encouraged to apply to fill the position that was recently vacated.

The term runs until Dec. 31.

The application form can be found at spokanevalley.org or can be picked up at Spokane Valley City Hall.

Applications are due by 5 p.m. Friday.

Meal-packing event is Aug. 22

SPOKANE VALLEY – The nonprofit hunger relief organization, Feed My Starving Children, is staging a packing event on Aug. 22 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 3606 S. Old Schafer Road.

More than 500 volunteers will work in two-hour shifts preparing 100,000 meal packs that will be distributed around the world.

Each meal cost 22 cents and organizers are looking for donations and volunteers.

Food donations for Second Harvest Food Bank are also accepted during the event.
