Nine Mile Falls student wins Military Children’s scholarship

Charles Mitchell, of Nine Mile Falls, won a $2,000 scholarship from the Scholarships for Military Children Program. Mitchell plans to enroll at Seattle Pacific University.

Applicants had to maintain a minimum 3.0 grade-point average, participate in activities at school and in the community, demonstrate leadership qualities and write an essay on a woman who influenced military decisions during World War II.

Four win Executive Women’s scholarship

On May 19, the Spokane Chapter of Executive Women International awarded four students a combined $17,000 in scholarships to help pay for tuition, books or other college-related expenses.

Chris Taylor, a senior at Ferris High School, won $6,000. Michelina Cozzetto, a junior at Mt. Spokane High School, won $6,000; Larrisa Caldeira, a junior at Rogers High School, won $3,000; and Mandy Edlin, a junior at Mead High School, won $2,000.

Cheney names new assistant principal

Cheney Public Schools has named E li Holm as the assistant principal of Cheney Middle School.

Most recently, Holm served as dean of students and athletic director at Sequoyah Middle School in the Federal Way School District. He also worked as a sixth- and seventh-grade teacher and administrative assistant at Surprise Middle School in the Fife School District.

Holm earned a bachelor’s degree in social sciences from Central Washington University in 2004 and completed a master’s degree in education and his principal certification at Pacific Lutheran University in 2006 and 2012, respectively.
