Third break-in reported at RV lot

Liberty Lake police caught two men in the act of burglarizing RVs at R&R RV on East Knox Avenue early Monday morning, the third time in a week someone had broken into RVs on the lot and stolen thousands of dollars worth of televisions.

The first theft was reported July 26 and the second July 29. Early Monday morning, Officer Jeff Jones was patrolling the area when he spotted an empty car in a neighboring lot.

“Obviously, we knew that this was happening, so we’ve been trying to spend as much time there as possible,” police Chief Brian Asmus said.

As Jones was calling for backup to help him search the large RV lot, a man approached the fence near the car, Asmus said. “He dropped the TV he was carrying and took off running in the opposite direction.”

Spokane Valley deputies helped corral the man and a police dog sniffed out a second man hiding under an RV. Both were arrested on charges of burglary and theft.

Asmus said one of the men used to work for Camping World and was in possession of a set of master keys for RVs when he was arrested.
