Showcase event raises $1.83 million

The Showcase raised $1.83 million last weekend to help fight cancer in the Inland Northwest, according to event organizers.

The fundraiser included a backyard concert featuring Keith Urban, which raised $625,000, celebrity-pro golf outings and a dinner and auction at Duane and Lola Hagadone’s residence.

All proceeds benefit the Community Cancer Fund, which supports local cancer patients and organizations that serve them at every stage of the illness. A portion of the proceeds will be used to support the YWCA’s Camp Goodtimes, a summer camp for Inland Northwest children battling cancer.

Women’s basketball

The Washington State women’s team released its nonconference schedule, which will feature four home games before the Cougars begin Pac-12 play.

Those four opponents include UC Santa Barbara, Hampton and San Jose State before the Cougars take on Gonzaga on Dec. 8 at Beasley Coliseum.

The Cougars, which finished 17-17 and lost to Eastern Washington in the first round of the WNIT, also have seven road nonconference games, including a Dec. 20 matchup at Kansas.

WSU will open Pac-12 play in the last week of December when it hosts Washington, but the entire conference schedule is not expected to be released until later this month or September.
