‘Chris Farley’ doc focuses on the laughs

Chuck Barney Contra Costa Times

Don’t miss

“I Am Chris Farley” – This new documentary celebrates the life and career of the lovable comedian who died of a drug overdose at the age of 33, just as he was establishing himself as a big-screen star after a five-year run on “Saturday Night Live.” Though the film fails to provide a complete picture of Farley’s personal tumult, it’s worth watching for the comedic memories and emotional interviews of, among others, Adam Sandler, Christina Applegate, Mike Myers, Dan Aykroyd, Molly Shannon and David Spade. 9 p.m. Monday, Spike.

Other bets

SUNDAY: Expect some added tension on “Masters of Sex.” Tonight, Virginia’s (Lizzy Caplan) parents (Frances Fisher and Michael O’Keefe) pay a surprise visit and instantly start judging her. 10 p.m., Showtime.

SUNDAY: “Ballers,” the popular freshman comedy, continues as Spencer (Dwayne Johnson) tries to save trouble-prone Vernon (Donovan Carter) by getting him to confront his past. Good luck. 10:30 p.m., HBO.

MONDAY: On “Chasing Life,” April (Italia Ricci) and Leo’s (Scott Michael Foster) wedding day arrives, but things don’t exactly go smoothly. Of course they don’t. This is a TV show, after all. 9 p.m., ABC Family.

TUESDAY: We’re down to the live rounds on “America’s Got Talent.” Tonight, 12 members of the Top 36 take the stage at Radio City Music Hall and try not to flop. 8 p.m., NBC.

TUESDAY: Will they show us the money? “The Agent” is an intriguing new 10-part documentary series that follows four top sports agents as they navigate the cutthroat world of pro football and try to prove that they’ve got game. 10 p.m., Esquire.

TUESDAY: Welcome to “Startup U.” It’s a new reality series that follows 10 business-minded young adults who learn hard truths and tough lessons while being mentored in how to launch a startup at Draper University in San Mateo. 10:01 p.m., ABC Family.

WEDNESDAY: Break out the Pepto-Bismol. “Carnival Cravings With Anthony Anderson” is a new show that has our host traveling the nation to discover the best carnival food. Tonight’s menu includes “redneck egg rolls” and a bacon-wrapped deep-fried dessert. 10 p.m., Food Network.

THURSDAY: “Complications” wraps up a compelling first season with, well, more complications. When John (Jason O’Mara) and Gretchen (Jessica Szohr) try to take Antoine home, his family is put in sudden danger. 9 p.m., USA.

FRIDAY: “Edge of Alaska” returns for a new season, and as usual these folks have problems that most of us don’t – like aggressive wolves that are killing sled dogs and livestock. Yikes. 9 p.m., Discovery Channel.

SATURDAY: On “Hannibal,” a full moon is approaching, and Will (Hugh Dancy) is convinced the Red Dragon will strike again. Unfortunately, without a solid lead to go on, he can’t predict who will be the victim. 10 p.m., NBC.
